China presents a unique set of challenges and opportunities for global governance, economic development, as well as security and stability, which impacts Europe and the broader international community. SIPRI’s research combines traditional and non-traditional security issues through in-depth field research and primary source investigation into China’s evolving policies, with a focus on:

  • China and regional security in Asia
  • China’s impact on regional and international norms
  • China’s arms control and non-proliferation commitments
  • ChineseEuropean cooperation in traditional and non-traditional security
  • China’s military modernization and evolving nuclear deterrence posture
  • China’s advances and policies in cyberspace and emerging technologies
  • China’s relations with its neighbours in North East Asia, South East Asia, South Asia and Central Asia
