
On 12 June, SIPRI and the International Tax and Investment Center hosted a conference in Stockholm titled ‘Central Asia in a Changing Global Order’. The conference was held at Medelhavsmuseet (the Museum of Mediterranean and Near Eastern Antiquities) in central Stockholm from 09:30–12:30.
Renowned experts and policy representatives discussed the prospect of regional integration and cooperation in Central Asia. Focusing on the challenges arising from growing geopolitical and economic fragmentation, they explored updated frameworks for analysis and political action, with the aim of better understanding the present and future direction of the Central Asian region.
The event featured introductory remarks by the Ambassador of Sweden to Tajikistan and Turkmenistan, Tomas Danestad, and two panel discussions moderated by experts from SIPRI’s China and Asia Security Programme, Dr Jingdong Yuan and Dr Jiayi Zhou.
