Dr Alaa Tartir
Dr Alaa Tartir is a Senior Researcher and the Director of the SIPRI Middle East and North Africa Programme. Tartir is also a Research Associate at the Geneva Graduate Institute’s Centre on Conflict, Development, and Peacebuilding, a Global Fellow at the Peace Research Institute Oslo, a Policy Advisor to Al-Shabaka: The Palestinian Policy Network, and a Governing Board Member of The Arab Reform Initiative.
Prior to joining SIPRI, Tartir worked as a Senior Researcher and Project Lead at the Small Arms Survey, and Academic Coordinator for the MENA region at the Geneva Graduate Institute. Amongst other positions, Tartir was a Visiting Professor at Sciences Po, a Fellow at The Geneva Centre for Security Policy, and a Researcher in International Development Studies at the London School of Economics and Political Science, where he earned his PhD.
