Dr Michael Brzoska
Prof. Dr. Michael Brzoska is an Associate Senior Researcher with the SIPRI Armament and Disarmament Programme. He was Scientific Director of the Institute for Peace Research and Security Policy at the University of Hamburg (IFSH), Germany, between 2006–16. Prior to this position, he was Director of Research at the Bonn International Center for Conversion, Germany. Other positions include a stint at SIPRI as research member and co-project leader in the arms trade and production team at SIPRI. He is a senior fellow at the IFSH and a member of the Hamburg Academy of Sciences.
Dr Brzoska's main current research project focuses on extreme weather events and violent conflict. Primary goal is a better grasp of the structural conditions and mechanisms which shape the consequences of extreme weather events for peace and security. He also continues to work and publish on a number of topics related to peace and security, including European Foreign and Security Policy, international arms embargoes, conventional arms control as well as arms production and exports. He is a frequent media commentator in Germany on arms exports and security policy.
