Alyson J. K. Bailes
Alyson J. K. Bailes was SIPRI's sixth Director, leading the Institute from 2002–2007. Before her appointment to SIPRI, she served as British Ambassador to Finland. From 2007–2015, she was an Adjunct Professor of Political Science at the University of Iceland and she also taught at the College of Europe in Bruges. Bailes passed away in 2016 aged 67—see SIPRI's tribute to her.
