On 23 August Dr Mark Bromley, Director of the SIPRI Dual-Use and Arms Trade Control Programme, presented an overview of trends in arms trade transparency at a side event of the 10th Conference of States Parties (CSP10) to the 2013 Arms Trade Treaty (ATT).

Under the title ‘The Right of Access to Information and Arms Transfers: Preventing Lethal Secrecy’, the event examined the obligations and responsibilities of states and the arms industry under international law to ensure the right of access to information on arms transfers. The event highlighted the key challenges related to reporting on arms transfers and explored the consequences they have for accountability and oversight.

SIPRI co-sponsored the event with Control Arms, PAX, the Quaker United Nations Office, Reaching Critical Will and the Women’s International League for Peace and Freedom.
