Abeer Ahmad

Abeer is a Researcher in the SIPRI Climate Change and Risk Programme. Her research focuses on climate security and integrated, nexus-based approaches to addressing interlinked challenges in conflict-affected areas, including the intersection of climate and health resilience.

Prior to joining SIPRI, Abeer served as an Analyst and Programme Manager across various humanitarian and development organisations, research institutes, and think tanks. In these roles, she managed programmes focused on poverty reduction, women’s empowerment, and social cohesion in vulnerable communities. Over the past decade, she has led and contributed to projects analysing foreign aid flows, evaluating national health systems, and strengthening health governance in the Middle East and Africa. She led and delivered analyses of Sida’s development assistance, focusing on gender and health, through the Expert Group for Aid Studies (EBA). She also contributed to comparative health policy research with the Swedish Institute for Health Economics (IHE). Her work has supported government decision-making through evidence-based policy recommendations.
