Emilie Broek

Emilie Broek was a Research Assistant in the SIPRI Climate Change and Risk Programme. Her research focused on international organizations and their responses to climate-related security risks.

Emilie holds an advanced MSc degree in International Relations and Diplomacy from Leiden University and an undergraduate degree from Rutgers University. During her studies, she completed several internships, including with the UNDP offices in Baku and Brussels, and the International Criminal Court in The Hague.

Following her graduation, Emilie worked for two years in the water sector at IHE Delft. Her work included coordinating the Dutch hydrological committees for UNESCO and the WMO and linking Dutch water expertise to international policy areas. She further established and became the project manager of ‘Youth for the Rhine’, a project that empowers young people to co-create climate adaptation policies.
