On 4 February, SIPRI and the Embassy of Ireland in Sweden hosted a panel on the critical yet often unrecognized role that women play in conflict resolution.
Together, Áine Hearns, Former Director, Department of Foreign Affairs, Ireland; and Charlotta Sparre, Deputy Director of SIPRI, discussed the challenges, successes and unique perspectives of women at the forefront of mediation efforts. The panel was moderated by H.E. Barbara Jones, Ambassador of Ireland to Sweden.
The event was held on occasion of St Brigid’s Day at the Official Residence of the Ambassador of Ireland to Sweden.
About SIPRI's work on gender, peace and security
As part of a larger effort to evaluate the implementation of United Nations Security Council Resolution 1325, SIPRI conducts research on women’s participation and gender perspectives in peace processes. It also examines gender training for police and other peacekeepers, and gender mainstreaming in peace operations and peacebuilding, including in security sector reform and transitional justice. SIPRI further conducts research on masculinities and small arms and light weapons control.
