SIPRI is pleased to launch a new video series highlighting diverse perspectives on European deterrence and security. The videos feature a set of interviews conducted during SIPRI’s 2024 Stockholm Security Conference (SSC24) on 22–23 October 2024.
In the interviews a wide range of international security experts, researchers and policymakers discuss the key challenges facing Europe today, the changes they envision, and the main actors driving shifts in defence strategies.
The interviewees consider the growing challenges of addressing global security threats, strengthening deterrence against Russia and maintaining cohesion within the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO). The interview subjects stress the need to increase military cooperation, production and open dialogue. Nonetheless, they express cautious optimism regarding the potential for improved relations and a stable security situation in Europe.
SIPRI conducted interviews with:
- Chris Badia, Deputy Supreme Allied Commander Transformation, NATO
- Justyna Gotkowska, Deputy Director, Centre for Eastern Studies
- Kajsa Ollongren, former Netherlands Minister of Defence
- Oliver Meier, Policy and Research Director, European Leadership Network
- Teija Tiilikainen, Director, European Centre of Excellence for Countering Hybrid Threats
