On 27 January in Kabul, Afghanistan, SIPRI held a roundtable discussion, entitled 'Security in Afghanistan and its Neighbourhood: the Regional Dimension of Stability after Transition'.
The seminar was the concluding event in SIPRI's Wider Central Asia (WCA) initiative, and was co-hosted by the Swedish Embassy in Kabul. Participants discussed the security concerns of Afghanistan and neighbouring countries of Central Asia, China, Iran and Pakistan in view of the withdrawal of the International Security Assistance Forces (ISAF) at the end of 2014.
The meeting was attended by senior government officials from Afghanistan's High Peace Council and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Afghan experts and representatives of political parties, ambassadors from Afghanistan’s neighbouring countries, senior United Nations representatives, and international experts on the region.
