Signe Landgren (1941–2014)

SIPRI mourns the death of Signe Landgren, a researcher at SIPRI for more than two decades, who died on 10 May aged 73.

When Signe joined SIPRI in 1969, on the recommendation of future SIPRI Chairman Professor Gunnar Myrdal, she brought an unusual enthusiasm and an impressive knowledge of many countries and languages.

Among other contributions, she led the Arms Trade Project between 1974 and 1981 and published The Arms Trade with the Third World (1971, co-editor), Southern Africa: The Escalation of a Conflict (1976), Embargo Disimplemented: South Africa's Military Industry (1989) and contributions to the SIPRI Yearbook between 1970 and 1993.
