In the framework of the Arms Trade Treaty (ATT) Working Group meetings and the Seventh Conference of States Parties (CSP7) Informal Preparatory Meeting (26–30 April 2021), SIPRI is hosting a virtual side event on the role of international assistance to implement the ATT. Specifically, the event will stimulate a discussion on the main challenges and lessons learned by donors, partner countries and implementing agencies involved in international assistance programmes to support implementation of the ATT six years after its entry into force. This discussion will address the possible role that the Voluntary Trust Fund (VTF) of the ATT and the ATT Secretariat could play to further strengthen the effectiveness in the way ATT-relevant international assistance is provided and coordinated. Participants will also reflect on the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on the provision of international assistance.
The event will be held in the context of the project ‘Taking stock of the first six years of the Arms Trade Treaty’, which SIPRI is currently implementing with financial support from the German Federal Foreign Office.
