According to the office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees' (UNHCR) latest Global Trends report, released in June 2020, an unprecedented 79.5 million people were forcibly displaced at the end of 2019. The number has nearly doubled since 2010. Conflicts are key drivers of forced displacement, with climate change and natural disasters as further factors.
The conversation will focus on the root causes and trends of global displacement. It will analyse the current state of international cooperation on the displacement issue, and is an opportunity to discuss sustainable ways forward.
The discussion will be live streamed on SIPRI’s YouTube and Facebook channels.
