Frank Blackaby was Director of SIPRI between 1981–86. He first came to SIPRI as a researcher in 1968–69, during which time he edited the first two SIPRI Yearbooks. After leaving SIPRI, Blackaby worked for nuclear disarmament, attending the Pugwash conferences on science and world affairs and taking the role of president of Abolition 2000. Blackaby passed away in 2000 aged 78.
