Johan Schaar is an Associate Senior Fellow with the SIPRI Peace and Development Programme as well as with the Conflict and Peace Programme. Johan is currently the chair of ALNAP, an international humanitarian network for learning and system improvement, and a member of the Expert Group for Aid Studies. He was recently in charge of Swedish aid to Palestine at the Swedish Consulate General in Jerusalem. He has worked at the World Resources Institute in Washington DC, was the Director of the International Commission on Climate Change and Development, launched by the Swedish Government and a member of the IUCN Council.
During his years with Sida he respectively led the Departments for Policy Support, Climate Change and Environment, and the Humanitarian Unit. He has worked for the Red Cross Red Crescent Movement and the Swedish Committee for Afghanistan with field postings in Asia.
