Sanem Topal

Sanem Topal was an EUNPDC intern in SIPRI’s Military Expenditure and Arms Production Programme. Her work at SIPRI focused on collecting data in projects relating to the defence sector such as military spending and Top 100 arms companies.

She is currently a master’s student of International Relations at Bilkent University in Ankara. Her thesis focuses on the impact of corporate political activity on the weapon modernization in the United States.

Before joining SIPRI, she was a Political Affairs Intern at United Nations Office for Disarmament Affairs in Vienna. She also worked as a part-time researcher at Nuclear Information Service in London. She interned twice at the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs; one in the general Ministry and the one in the Directorate for the European Union. Sanem received mentorship from the EU Nonproliferation and Disarmament Consortium and was selected to the Research Fellowship offered by the CTBTO Youth Group.
