On 10 September 2021, SIPRI hosted an expert round-table discussion with the Yemeni Minister of Foreign Affairs, His Excellency Dr Ahmed Awad Bin Mubarak, as part of his official visit to Sweden.
The event was held on the theme ‘Towards a Peaceful Resolution for Yemen’ and began with an address by Dr Bin Mubarak. The address was followed by an engaging round-table discussion, navigated by a series of questions from senior experts and representatives from international organizations and agencies. The discussion covered an array of topics: rights and women’s participation in the peace process; the impact of climate change and environmental degradation; peacebuilding efforts; opportunities for long-term development; and economic reforms.
Dan Smith, SIPRI Director, presided over the discussion, which featured expert comments by Bitte Hammargren, Senior Associate Fellow, Swedish Institute of International Affairs, and Ambassador Jan Eliasson, Chair of the SIPRI Governing Board.
