The event will be held virtually at 15:00 (Stockholm) // 09:00 (New York)

As enshrined in Article VI of the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT), the pursuit of effective measures for nuclear disarmament is a core element of the NPT and central to its ultimate goal of a world free of nuclear weapons. The 10th Review Conference is an opportunity to strengthen the NPT and the disarmament and non-proliferation regime, by agreeing to practical steps in disarmament that increase transparency and confidence, reduce risks, and signal a return to a common path to a world free of nuclear weapons.

Co-organized by the United Nations Office for Disarmament Affairs and SIPRI, this event seeks to foster dialogue around a number of key questions: How can the review conference reinforce the norms against the use, acquisition and testing of nuclear weapons? Can NPT states parties identify near-term transparency and confidence-building measures that could lay the ground for disarmament progress? What role can nuclear risk reduction play in facilitating disarmament, and how can the topic be advanced at the review conference? How should the review conference approach outstanding disarmament business, including commitments made within the framework of past conferences? Can the review conference help to address concerns related to ongoing developments in nuclear and related capabilities, including their means of delivery? Can the review conference strengthen assurances to non-nuclear weapon states that nuclear weapons will not be used against them? What steps can the review conference take to contribute to renewed progress in nuclear arms control and disarmament efforts?

Expert speakers will engage in a moderated discussion, followed by a Q&A session with the audience.
