Sven-Olof Petersson

Ambassador Sven-Olof Petersson is a Swedish diplomat and, as of 1 September 2014, the Chairman of the SIPRI Governing Board. His previous positions in the Swedish Ministry for Foreign Affairs (MFA) include Director of the Minister's Office and Director-General for Political Affairs. He has served at the Swedish embassies in Algiers, Beirut, Dar es Salaam, Strasbourg and Washington, DC. He was Director General for Political Affairs when the late Anna Lindh was Sweden's Foreign Minister. He also held the post of Swedish ambassador to the European Union between 2002 and 2008, and was Sweden's ambassador in Canberra, Australia, until early 2014.
